Modular Home Builders Directory and Resources
Modular Home Construction Videos
This is a series of videos that detail the construction of a modular home.  I came across these on youtube
and I think they are the most useful videos of this kind for consumers who are thinking of building a modular
home.  They are done by the owner of
Reagan Homes in Mystic, Connecticut, Dave Reagan.  I have no
association with the company and in fact didn't even have Reagan Homes listed in the modularresource.com
directory of modular home builders in Connecticut (I added them today), I just liked the videos so much I
decided to post them here.  I will try to add more videos related to modular homes here as I come across
them.
The thing I liked most about these informational videos is the fact that they give a very accurate picture of my
own experiences in seeing the construction of a modular home.  There are many different kinds of modular
and prefab homes out there and some are quite unique, like those made from recycled materials, shipping
containers or old mobile classrooms.  Those are all great and I am glad to feature homes like that on this site,
but the most common modular home is the kind that looks so similar to a stick built home that it can be placed
in an existing neighborhood full of site built homes and it would be impossible to tell that parts of it were
completed in a factory.  That is the case with the modular home that is being built in these videos.

There are a lot of videos out there that show a modular home being set on the foundation in high speed.  The
"completed" in one day.  I think this leaves many people with an unrealistic idea of how the construction of a
modular home really takes place.  In fact, even if everything goes as planned it can easily be a few more
months before the home is actually completed and ready to move into.  The builders of the home in this
example had a target of about 30 days after the house was set to complete all the finishing work.

In addition to giving you a realistic idea of all the work that goes into completing a modular home after it has
been set, these videos can also give you ideas of some portions of the construction that you may want to
complete or contract out yourself in order to save some money.  This is not that uncommon in modular home
construction projects.  For example, the home in the videos came from the factory with white primer, so if you
wanted some or all of the house painted a different color you might want to do it yourself to save money.
Also, modular homes can be ordered without flooring so if you have the ability to install hardwood floors or
carpeting yourself you may want to do that as well.  So if you have not seen an actual modular home built
from start to finish, when you watch one of those videos where a modular home is seemingly built in a couple
hours, you would be very surprised to see what that home looked like on the inside.
I'll let the builder in the video explain this in detail.
